Welcome Letter

Dear Prospective Resident,

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Anesthesiology Residency Program at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC). We are excited to introduce you to our ACGME-accredited four-year residency program, dedicated to training highly skilled, compassionate physicians who are prepared to provide exceptional perioperative care and serve diverse patient populations.

Our program is based at ARMC, the primary teaching hospital of the California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM). The program benefits from strong academic partnerships with Loma Linda University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. This collaboration provides residents with a rich educational experience that combines the strengths of a county teaching hospital, a major academic medical center, and one of the nation’s leading pediatric hospitals.

As a 456-bed, state-of-the-art teaching hospital, ARMC serves as a Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, STEMI Receiving Center, and a Regional Burn Center. Residents gain hands-on experience managing a broad range of complex surgical and critically ill patients while working alongside dedicated faculty committed to education, mentorship, innovation, and patient-centered care. As the principal clinical training site for CUSM medical students and numerous graduate medical education programs, ARMC fosters a collaborative academic environment that promotes lifelong learning and professional growth.

Our curriculum provides progressive responsibility and comprehensive training across all major subspecialties of anesthesiology, including obstetric, pediatric, cardiothoracic, neuro, regional, and critical care anesthesia. Residents also benefit from advanced simulation training, Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) education, research opportunities, and leadership development experiences that prepare them for successful careers in academic medicine, private practice, or fellowship training.

At ARMC, we are committed to fostering a culture of excellence, diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellness. We believe that outstanding physicians are developed through strong mentorship, meaningful clinical experiences, and a supportive learning environment that encourages both professional and personal growth. We are proud to offer five categorical anesthesiology residency positions annually and welcome applicants who are passionate about clinical excellence, service, scholarship, and compassionate patient care.

We look forward to reviewing your application and welcoming future anesthesiologists who share our commitment to clinical excellence, academic achievement, and compassionate patient care.

Sincerely,

Steven Barr, M.D.
