Kevin Phan, MD

About Dr. Phan

Kevin Phan, MD, is a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Foot and Ankle Surgery. He grew up in Orange County, CA. Dr. Phan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physiological Sciences at UCLA and then completed his Medical Doctorate Degree at UC San Diego. He then moved to New York and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Albert Einstein – Montefiore Medical Center, where he had the title of Chief Resident. From there, Dr. Phan moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to continue his advanced training in foot and ankle surgery at Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan.

Dr. Phan’s expertise is in foot and ankle reconstruction and treating all fractures and sprains around the foot and ankle. His expertise includes the treatment of bunions, hammertoes, arthritis from the toes to the ankle, painful flat feet, Achilles tendon disorders, and sports injuries. He has specialized training in patient-specific total ankle replacement surgery and uses minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques when appropriate.

He believes in a true doctor-patient relationship and in helping patients understand their disease and healing process. He engages his patients in open discussion regarding treatment options and develops individualized treatment plans, whether in creating custom orthotics or planning for surgery.

Dr. Phan is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society and regularly attends meetings and conferences to stay up to date on the latest advances in techniques and technology. He has contributed over 20 peer-reviewed research articles in orthopaedic surgery and was awarded an NIH research training grant.

In his spare time, Dr. Phan loves being outdoors with his wife and daughter and his Goldendoodle, Margie. He is an avid Lakers and Chargers fan, a lifelong snowboarder who also enjoys surfing and longboarding.
