Did You Know? Arrowhead

Have you ever wondered why an arrowhead is the symbol of San Bernardino County? According to the City of San Bernardino’s site, there is a naturally occurring outline of an arrowhead in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains. The arrowhead is 1,375 feet long and 449 feet wide. The face of the arrowhead is made up of light quartz and short white sage, meaning it stands out against the more dense vegetation on the mountain. There is a Native American legend surrounding the arrowhead that says that a great spirit used the arrow to guide them to a spot where they should live. Despite forest fires over the years that have caused erosion in the area, the outline of the arrowhead continues to be visible from the city below. The next time you head to San Bernardino, keep an eye out for the arrowhead. It is located just north of San Bernardino’s Wildwood Park near 40th Street and Waterman Avenue.
