Ellen Ko, MD

About Dr. Ko

Dr. Ellen Ko grew up in beautiful Southern California where she became inspired to pursue her medical career in high school followed by her pre-medical major in Psychobiology. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Southern California. She also earned her Master of Science degree in Biology before matriculating at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts for her Medical Doctor degree. After four years of studying and living in Boston, she missed warm Southern California so much that she returned for her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center/University of California, Los Angeles.

She became board certified by the American Board of Pathology in combined Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology. She received an additional fellowship year of training in Cytopathology at University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB) and became a board-certified Cytopathologist. Her other pathology interests include immunohistochemistry and hematology.

She joined Arrowhead Pathology Medical Group in 2008 when Dr. Ted Friedman decided to semi-retire and Dr. Carolyn Leach became the full time Chairman and Director of Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services. Dr. Ko has brought with her many years of work experiences from Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente and other community based practices. Dr. Ko believes in balancing her busy medical practice with her motivation of pursuing physical fitness through her love of racket sports such as tennis and badminton, as well as artistic and music endeavors such as Asian brush calligraphy and painting, and piano performance.
